Rust Berlin on location 🏳️🌈 is a new, informal in-person Rust meetup group in Berlin.
We are an interactive meetup format interested in mob coding, deep diving and problem solving together.
We build toy projects, share experiences, discuss technology and learn new cool stuff.
And you are welcome to join!
No matter if you are writing Rust production code every day, if you already contribute to Open Source projects or want to start doing so, if you use Rust in hobby projects or if you are just curious what the hype and buzz is all about, you are very welcome!

Being an informal meetup, we are open to anything between just meet and talk, explore nerd snipes and rabbit holes, mob code together, plan and build fun projects, tinker with electronics, and presentations with Q&A.
This time, Jan-Erik will lead an interactive introduction to Jujutsu VCS (“jj”), the git-compatible version control system.
Jujutsu is a powerful version control system for software projects. You use it to get a copy of your code, track changes to the code, and finally publish those changes for others to see and use. It is designed from the ground up to be easy to use—whether you’re new or experienced, working on brand new projects alone, or large scale software projects with large histories and teams.
Expect a guided exploration, followed by hands-on demo and play-along time with questions. Feel free to bring your laptops if you want to follow along!

With the introduction of the new Rust Berlin Talks meetup series, Rust Berlin on location 🏳️🌈 strengthens its focus on social community experience, the exchange of knowledge, ideas and perspectives, and the joy of spontaneity.
Anyone is invited to bring their projects and questions, show or ask something, or bring a topic to explore together. The best conversations and deepest rabbit holes can emerge out of seemingly nowhere.
We schedule regular meetups on Thursday evening every four weeks, using the slot between the Berlin Rust Hack and Learn online meetup (every two weeks), and the Rust Nuremberg online meetup (every four weeks).
3 September 2026 is our seventeenth meeting. Our next projected meetings are going to occur on the following dates:
Our meetup location is the new shared office community space of Ferrous Systems, Slint and KDAB in Berlin Mitte, for up to 25 people.
We are expecting to use this space as our default location for the time being, with the IN-Berlin e.V. community space in Moabit as backup.
Regardless, as our group might eventually outgrow the locations’ size limit, we are low-key looking for bigger locations. If you know a fitting location, then please let us know in our Zulip chat! Another workable way might be to split the meetup into smaller, interest-specific sub-groups instead.
The location has an elevator and a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Please note that the bathroom is two floors down from the meetup space.
On our quest for a bigger location, we are going to pay special attention to accessibility.
We aim to create a safe place for everyone and adhere to the Berlin Code of Conduct.
Inclusivity is very important to us. If you are curious about Rust, but unsure if you are welcome to join: Yes, yes you are. Please come to the meetup! If you have special needs, please get in contact, we will try to accommodate you as best we can.

NOTE: due to predicted bad weather, we are moving our intended grilling party inside at the KDAB-Ferrous Systems-Slint office. Please do not arrive before 6pm.
It’s summer - so instead of meeting for talks, we’ll meet for a summer party! This is self-serving, so please bring drinks, food and whatever you want.
Due to the unpredictable weather, we’ll meet inside, but with an option to stick around outside at the Spreeufer at the KDAB office. No talks this time, just open and free chatting.
Please be mindful of vegans and vegatarians when thinking about foods to bring. A vegetarian meal can often be easily made vegan and a whole wide world of vegan grilling goods is to be explored!

Every software project needs software itself. There is often custom tooling, and important standard tools beyond Cargo that need to be the same version between all developers. Development environments differ from production.
“Mise-en-place” is a relatively new approach that’s both a package manager and a task runner, and it complements Cargo particularly well. We’ll discuss where “Mise” shines, where tools like Pixi/Nix/Bazel might be a better choice, and we’ll see dev tooling in a new light.
Both Nushell and jj will make brief appearances as well. If anyone would like to lead a session on either topic at one of our upcoming editions, that would be wonderful — reach out in our Zulip chat!
